DESPITE the four-day long weekend stretching from today, July 4, till Tuesday July 7 being well underway, Pattaya beach only managed to attract a few Thai tourists with the expected liveliness not materializing, PostToday reported.
This failure to attract a large number of Thai vacationers occurred despite Pattaya having joined the Tourism Authority of Thailand promotion campaign, entitled Pattaya Hot Deal, which offers tourists as much as 50% discount.
The hoped for impact of the phase five easing of the coronavirus lockdown did not occur with only some Thai tourists showing up at both at both this and adjacent Jomtien beach to swim and relax by the seaside.
The fewer number of tourists led to beach umbrella and deck chair rental operators not increasing the capacity on these two beaches.
Even the Motorway which is the key route to Pattaya did not have the air of a vacation with traffic flowing smoothly and no congestion, this throughout half the day today.
Mrs Sunisa Sookkun, a Pattaya beach umbrella and deck chair operator, said other operators like herself have not increased the number of seats because they realize that Thai tourists prefer to go to Bang Saen beach, which has to be accepted is also a good place to visit.
Pattaya usually attracts foreign tourists but they are still not allowed into the country because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
