DSI police together with officials from other key agencies raided a townhouse in Thawi Wattana district today (2.5.2020) and seized 5 million baht worth of hoarded medical supplies in great demand during the current coronavirus pandemic, INN News reported.
Acting on a tip off that a two-storey townhouse in this district had been used to store smuggled goods, DSI’s deputy head Pol Lt Col Pakorn Suchiwakun, accompanied with officials of the Food and Drug Administration, the Department of Internal Trade and Thawi Watthana district office, raided the premises and found that the ground floor was used to hoard the essential medical supplies.
Seized were 565 boxes of face masks (normal type) with each box containing 50 pieces totaling 28,250 pieces; many sizes and brands of alcohol hand sanitizers; 8,200 packets of face mask filters and 1,800 sets of PPE gowns all worth around 5 million baht.
Sala Daeng Police Station will now inspect the seized goods and carrying out further investigation particularly the product standard and their labels.
DSI warns people to be careful about substandard goods of poor quality sold at untrustworthy outlets because not only are they dangerous for health, it is uncertain they could actually protect against the coronavirus.
If anyone has any information about wrongdoing concerning controlled goods they can inform DSI via its website, https://register.dsi.go.th/CaseControlledProducts, or call the DSI call centre 1202 (free nationwide).
