TWO Chinese nationals wanted in their homeland for being key members of an illegal surrogacy ring were arrested at a Pattaya hotel today (July 5), TV Channel 7 said.

A police team from the Central Investigation and Immigration bureaux apprehended Mr. Yan, 43, and Ms. Mi, 33, and revoked their permits to stay in Thailand as arrest warrants have been issued for them by Hangzhou Public Security Bureau, Linping district branch. Zhejiang province, on charges of illegally operating a medical business and being involved in an illegal surrogacy ring.

Yan is alleged to head an organisation responsible for managing the premises of the illegal surrogacy operation with the unlicensed medical facility providing illegal insemination and surrogacy services for profit.

Initial investigations revealed numerous unsuspecting clients and connections to multiple parties, involving a massive amount of money. Furthermore, the ring ran into a serious conflict with a client during an embryo transfer procedure with this being linked to other criminal offences that Chinese authorities are currently investigating.

Mi is also a member of the illegal surrogacy network, holding significant control as a shareholder in the company. She was tasked with marketing and expanding the client base by recruiting members or victims for surrogacy services at the illegal medical facility.

On Thursday (July 2) Thai police were alerted by China that the two suspects had illegally entered the country. A further investigation revealed that the two of them were residing at a hotel in Pattaya leading to their arrest today and they will now be deported back to China.
