Israel man arrested on drug charges on Koh Phangan, Aussie couple too nabbed

FOLLOWING the arrest of a Brazilian man on drug trafficking charges on Koh Phangan, further investigation led to an Israeli man being arrested on similar charges while an Australian couple also landed in hot water with the man for drug use and the woman for resisting arrest, Naewna newspaper and TV Channel 7 said today (Mar. 8).

Pol. Maj. Gen. Chutharet Yingyongdamrongsakul, commander of Immigration Police Division 6, said after Mr. Pedro (surname withheld), the Brazilian suspect, was nabbed on Thursday (Mar. 5) he ordered Pol. Col. Naruwat Phutthaviro, superintendent of Surat Thani Immigration Police, to expand investigation which led to the discovery of an additional suspect being involved in a network supplying drugs to tourists on this island.

By going through surveillance camera clips, the police team obtained evidence against Mr. Orr (surname withheld and name translated as written in Thai), an Israeli national, and apprehended him at Coconut Lane, Koh Phangan subdistrict, Koh Phangan district.

Found concealed in his hotel room were a large quantity of narcotics including cocaine weighing a total of 389.35 grammes with some of it being cloudy and lumpy, suggesting it had been recently smuggled to the island by hiding on his body. Additionally, Ecstasy in both powder and tablet form, Ketamine, and cannabis resin were found, along with several devices for packaging narcotics.

While arresting the Israeli suspect, an Australian couple, only identified as Mr. Kian and Ms. Mika, were found acting suspiciously near his room. Kian was tested and cocaine was found in his system and he was arrested on charges of drug use. However Mika refused to undergo the test and was charged with resisting arrest and preventing officers of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) from performing their duty.
