Unofficial results by 11 p.m.: Polling agency

THE Election Commission said today’s (Feb. 8) general election plus national referendum on whether a new constitution should be created was orderly this morning particularly in the northeastern and southern border provinces with unofficial results likely by 11 p.m. but sooner if counting proceeds smoothly, TV Channel 7 said.

Mr. Sawaeng Boonmee, EC’s secretary-general, said almost 100,000 polling stations are operational nationwide with voting to end at 5 p.m.

The atmosphere is lively, and the weather was not too hot, with this conducive to the public exercising their right to vote.

There have been five voting-buying cases with three in Surat Thani, one in Chiang Rai, and one in Ratchaburi.

Vote counting will begin simultaneously on three ballot boards after polling stations close at 5 p.m. While overall unofficial results should be available at around 11 p.m. this could emerge sooner if the process proceeds smoothly. Observers who see errors in the counting can immediately raise objections.
