Crane falls on Rama II road killing one person

A CONSTRUCTION crane fell on Rama II road at 9.15 a.m. this morning (Jan. 15) crushing two vehicles with there being one fatality, Naewna newspaper said.

According to the Fire & Rescue Facebook page the crane fell and hit the two vehicles in front of a hotel on the outbound side of the Samut Sakhon stretch of this road just before Tha Chin river.

Another Facebook user, named Real Champ, shared a video of the accident (link below).

This followed yesterday’s horrific accident whereby a crane from the construction of a high-speed rail’s bridge fell on a Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani train just as it was passing Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat) leading to 32 deaths and dozens injured.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul angrily demanded that the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) Governor take responsibility for this  accident while police are collecting evidence and will prosecute those involved.

Italian-Thai Development Plc has stated its willingness to accept responsibility.

Some construction accidents have occurred on Rama II road with an engineer suffering a ruptured liver and later dying after two chunks of concrete fell on his pickup truck as he was passing beneath a flyover to Samut Sakhon where he worked on Apr. 29, 2025.

Then on May 6 soon after midnight a cable fell on a trailer truck and a pickup truck loaded with seafood from an overhead construction stretch causing severe damage to both vehicles but no injuries.
