Shells hit Sa Kaeo community sparking fire

 

TENSION escalated in Sa Kaeo province amid continuous clashes between Thai and Cambodian troops this morning (Dec. 22) with shells hitting a community in Khok Sung district causing extensive damage and sparking fire, Amarin TV said.

At around 7.20 a.m. Khmer forces fired heavy weapons across the border into Thai territory with some shells smashing into a new location not far from Nong Ya Kaeo village which was formerly a refugee camp housing Cambodians. They were fired in seemingly indiscriminate manner and damaged homes and subsequently started a fire.

Security forces and related agencies have secured the area, are assessing the damage, and providing urgent assistance to those affected. Residents near the border were urged to avoid risky areas and strictly follow official instructions.

The border situation in Sa Kaeo province continues to require close monitoring amid public concern about the potential for prolonged unrest. Security agencies are continuously monitoring and assessing the situation 24 hours a day.
