PRIME Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said this afternoon (Dec. 10) that he is ready to talk to US President Donald Trump about the battle with Cambodia raging at the border with the Foreign Affairs Ministry having to schedule it, Amarin TV.
Trump said he would make a phone call to stop the conflict, after he had brokered a ceasefire in July to end a five-day battle between the Asian neighbours.
Anutin said if a leader of the stature of US President made a phone call Thailand must answer with an explanation to be given on the conflict as he would not know the details of clashes now raging fiercely at the border.
When asked whether talking to the US leader would resolve the conflict, Anutin replied, “That’s a different matter. This is a matter between two countries. While other leaders have good intentions to see peace, we need to explain what the problems are and why things are this way.”
When asked if other countries, such as China, had contacted Thailand, Anutin said no but explained that contact must be made through diplomatic channels, and once this has been completed, the Foreign Affairs Ministry would inform him.
On the battlefront, Burapha Task Force this afternoon ordered a 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew at four districts of Sa Kaeo province, namely Ta Phraya, Khok Sung, Aranyaprathet, and Khlong Hat.
The Thai army also confirmed that it had detected a Cambodian satellite vehicle and PHL-03 rocket launcher entering Kampong Thom province with the latter having a maximum range of 130km.
This new wave of clashes along the border clearly revealed that Khmer forces have further developed “drone attack tactics” using first-person view (FPV) unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). These attacks are not just direct hits, but also employ techniques of targeting, deception and traps.
This makes Thai forces more vulnerable if not careful with losses possibly repeatedly occurring within minutes.
Khmer tactics include:
– Attack pattern: Khmers use multiple drones together, including a lead drone for target identification and a decoy drone before deploying the actual FPV drone for the attack.
– Weapons used: Khmers were found dropping GPS trackers to transmit details about the targets then launching 82mm mortars into the area.
