AN INTENSE clash broke out between Thai and Cambodian forces along the border at Sisaket province this afternoon (Dec.7) leading to two Thai soldiers being injured, Naewna newspaper said.
Gunfire erupted at Phu Pha Lek and Phlan Hin Paet Kon areas of this border province with Second Army Region Commander Lt. Gen. Wirayut Raksin ordering the enforcement of the rules of engagement before it ended.
Timeline of the latest clash at the Thai-Cambodian border is as follows:
– At 2.15 p.m. Unit 13, Infantry Regiment 1 (Special Task Force 1) clashed with Khmer troops using small arms fire, resulting in one injury, Sgt. Maj. Anuchat Ruankham (6th Infantry Regiment, 6th Battalion);
– At 2.16 p.m., intermittent gunfire continued with the Cambodian side beginning to use recoilless firearms;
Lt. Gen. Wirayut, ordered units to be fully prepared and comply with the rules of engagement;
– At 2.50 p.m., the clash ended but Thai units are continuing to closely monitor the situation and maintain readiness.
Injured in today’s clash were:
1/ Sgt. Anuchat Ruankham who was shot in the leg;
2/ PFC Phonchai Champajum (6th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Battalion) was shot in the chest with the bullet penetrating his bulletproof vest. He suffered bruises and chest tightness.
They are currently en route to Don Aow Health Promotion Hospital after which will be transferred to Kantharalak Hospital.
