METROPOLITAN Police investigators today (Nov. 13) arrested a former Special Branch police officer at a well-known hotel in central Bangkok on charges of kidnapping and extorting a Taiwanese businessman in 2021, Naewna and Thai Rath newspapers said.
Mr. Santhana Prayoonrat, nicknamed Rong Tor, was taken to Thonglar police station for questioning and after investigation is done and charges filed he will be taken to Bangkok South Criminal Court for prosecution.
This case stemmed from the arrest of two former American Marines in May 2021, Jeremy Manchester and Lewis Ziskin, along with other Thai suspects after Mr.Wen Yu-chung, a Taiwanese national who was a representative selling medical rubber gloves, filed a complaint that he had been kidnapped for ransom.
The kidnapping occurred after Ziskin suffered 93 million baht damage in a glove trading business with Wen Yu-chung’s company.
Ziskin had allegedly in late 2020 appointed Collection Company Ltd. to negotiate the purchase of a large quantity of gloves with Paddy The Room Trading Co. for almost $3 million. However the former American Marine lost the money after a business conflict erupted.
