AN investigation by Bangkok Metropolitan Police using a drone fitted with thermal imaging cameras to survey the huge sinkhole on Samsen road right in front of Vajira Hospital and Samsen police station indicates that a second collapse is possible, Amarin TV said this evening (Sep. 24).
Pol. Maj. Gen. Chotiwat Leuangwilai, commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau’s Investigation Division, was shocked by the significant amount of soil lost, with more sliding into the 30-metre-by-30-metre and 50-metre-deep sinkhole all day today.
Images taken by these cameras measured the soil beneath the road and found that it is highly humid with the red area showing the amount of soil lost.
While there were no causalities, power poles, a Samsen police station vehicle and a sedan fell into the sinkhole.
Meanwhile Thai Newsroom got a message from Caelus.space which said that their team immediately applied satellite-based monitoring to assess the risk of the huge sinkhole and within minutes got the following result:
– This sinkhole could have been detected months in advance – as shown in the image.
– Another sinkhole is forming nearby at the junction of Samsen 17 Alley and Samsen road – and is likely to develop soon.
This morning (Sep.25) Caelus.space clarified that their findings represent an early-risk indication that warrants professional investigation, not a definitive prediction of an immediate disaster.
