Tight security at Supreme Court for Thaksin’s verdict tomorrow

AROUND a hundred policemen are being deployed at the Supreme Court next to Sanam Luang for handing down the verdict in a lawsuit against de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra and others for his alleged six-month fakeout at Police Hospital tomorrow (Sep. 9), Naewna newspaper said this evening.

Court officials and police officers from Chana Songkram station together worked out a security plan for tomorrow to maintain law and order. It was agreed that a hundred policemen from this station and the Riot Control Unit be stationed at the court.

They designated an area where only media members registered with the Supreme Court will be allowed to come in. They have been told to park their news vehicles behind the Supreme Court building along Khlong Lod canal.

Media outlets that have not requested permission to cover this hearing as well as Thaksin’s supporters will have to gather at Phra Mae Thorani Bip Mue Hom area at the foot of Phan Phiphob Lila Bridge.

A metal barrier will be erected to maintain order and control the area surrounding the Supreme Court.

Vehicles belonging to litigants in this court case will be permitted to enter the Supreme Court building through the rear entrance on Khlong Lod side to maintain order.

The Supreme Court judges in charge of criminal lawsuits against persons in political positions will be handing down their verdict in the lawsuit filed against Thaksin and others for allegedly conspiring to take legal loopholes and perpetrating a six-month-long fakeout at Police Hospital in lieu of being literally put behind bars to otherwise serve a curtailed, one-year jail sentence at Bangkok Remand prison until he was released on parole early last year.

Thaksin returned to Thailand this afternoon after flying to Dubai last Thursday (Sep. 4) upon being unable to land at Singapore’s Seletar Airport, which serves private aircraft, because it is only open till 10 p.m. and he was held up by Immigration police for two hours.

It was determined that over 20,000 people tracked Thaksin’s flight from Don Mueang Airport to Singapore, but not landing there, and onwards to Dubai on Flightradar24 that night, Thai Rath newspaper said.
