PEOPLE’S Party leader Nattapong Ruengpanyawut and his team announced this morning (Sep. 3) that his camp has decided to vote for Bhumjaithai Party leader Anutin Charnvirakul as the next prime minister under five conditions, Naewna newspaper said.
The decision was made after thorough discussions among party members on whether to support Anutin or Pheu Thai MP Chaikasem Nitisiri and it was decided that the party’s 143 MPs would endorse the former. Bhumjaithai is de facto led by Newin Chidchob while Pheu Thai is under de facto party boss Thaksin Shinwatra.
A successful naming of the next prime minister will only need a simple majority vote from among a total of 495 performing lawmakers, currently accounting for 248.
The five conditions are as follows:
– The new Prime Minister must dissolve Parliament within four months;
– Hold a referendum on amending the constitution;
– Push for the formation of a Constitution Amendment Committee;
– Bhumjaithai Party must not take any action to form a majority government;
– The People’s Party will not join the new coalition government or take any ministerial seat in the cabinet.
