VILLAGERS in Far-South Pattani province panicked after being warned to beware of an armed ranger on the run after shooting his colleague while on duty this afternoon (May 21), Amarin TV said.
At 3.20 p.m. Pol. Col. Aphakorn Wirupak-arak, superintendent of Panare police station, was alerted of a shooting at the 4215th Infantry Regiment base and quickly took a team there to investigate.
Upon arrival police were told that volunteer rangers had fired at each other at the water pump next to the base. Defence volunteer Phongdech Nanaensuk, 30, had been shot once each in the abdomen and left arm and doctors gave him initial treatment before sending him to Pattani Hospital.
It was defence volunteer Prawit Leumphon, 36, who shot him then ran away.
Officers have joined forces to hunt for him with villagers warned to be careful as he is armed.
