Bhumjaithai could be ousted from Pheu Thai-led govt over casino bill conflict

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

THE BHUMJAITHAI could possibly be kicked out of the Pheu Thai-led coalition government due to an unsettled inter-party discrepancy over the delayed legislation to open casinos at certain tourist spots, partisan sources said today (April 16).

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s father/de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra may contemplate ousting the Bhumjaithai, the second largest coalition partner viewed as an ultra-conservative party under de facto party boss Newin Chidchob, from the Pheu Thai-led government if most Bhumjaithai MPs cast nay votes against or abstain from voting on the highly contentious legislation to open casinos under the name of entertainment complexes in the next few months.

Though the billionaire, power-playing Thaksin had quietly manipulated to keep Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who concurrently acts as Bhumjaithai leader only in name, personally aligned with the Pheu Thai, core of the coalition government, he could not change the mind of most Bhumjaithai MPs who apparently remain under Newin’s influence, according to the partisan sources.

Newin’s son/Bhumjaithai secretary-general/MP Chaichanok Chidchob had taken the House floor to unambiguously express his ultimate opposition to the Pheu Thai-designed casino bill, considerably displeasing the de facto Pheu Thai boss who had quietly pushed for it.

The Palang Pracharath, now part of the opposition bloc led by former deputy prime minister Prawit Wongsuwan, could possibly be brought into the Pheu Thai-led coalition government to replace Newin’s camp at any given time, the sources said.

It will be very unlikely for Thaksin to opt out simply by having his daughter/”puppet” prime minister dissolve the House and call a general election in a 60-day time as long as he could practically keep the Pheu Thai-led government under control, they said.
