Soldier held for scamming 60 women he met through dating app

A SOLDIER was arrested today (Oct. 22) for scamming as many as 60 women he met through a dating app and blackmailing many of them by threatening to publish compromising video clips, Naewna newspaper said.

Pol. Col. Chakaj Thiamwong, deputy commander of the Udon Thani provincial police, and his team announced the arrest of Cpl. Suphakorn (surname withheld), or Film, under an arrest warrant issued by the  24th Military Circle Court dated October 11, 2024, on charges of theft and extortion.

He was apprehended at a rented room in Sakon Nakhon as he was moving to scam yet another woman.

This followed a complaint from Ms. Tai, 22, that Suphakorn had stolen her property and tried to extort money from her.

She related that she had met Suphakorn at the dating app Omi and after dating for a while he asked to stay at her room in Udon Thani. However on Sep. 13 he stole her computer notebook and threatened to delete important data unless she transferred money to him so she reported him to the police.

Police investigators later found out that Suphakorn was attached to a military camp in Nakhon Ratchasima but was dismissed on Aug. 19. Moreover the 21st Military Circle Court had also issued a warrant for his arrest on charges of embezzlement.

Upon checking his mobile phone police found the dating app installed,  eight Facebook accounts and over 2,000 video clips of victims in bed.

Although seven of his victims had reported him to police most of the over 60 women he had scammed did not dare do so,

The suspect romanced his victims and tricked them into falling in love with him after which he would take most of them to stay at his house where there were surveillance cameras all around including the bedroom. He then used the compromising video clips to blackmail them.

He confessed to charges and said he sold cars and other valuables he got from his victims then invested the money in the stock market. He has been sent to the military court for legal proceedings.
