DEJPON CHANSIRI, the Thai owner of Sheffield Wednesday football club, has begun to win praise and support from local fans whilst desperately seeking co-investment for the English Championship side.
Until recently, Dejpon had been viewed by those fans as an “utterly unfit” owner of the Owls and intermittently encountered “Chansiri Go Home!” protests inside and outside of Hillsborough stadium, the Sheffield Wednesday home turf.
Sustained, external pressure notwithstanding, the Owls owner has taken steps to regain confidence on and off the pitch beginning with his having settled 19 million pounds (822 million baht) in debt owed by Sheffield Wednesday.
The partial debt settlement was noted as part of Dejpon’s plan to draw attention from any sought-after co-investors for the Owls, now embarrassedly sitting in the bottom three of the 24-team Championship table.
Much to the chagrin of some people among the disgruntled local fans, the Thai owner has so far showed no signs of an attempt to completely sell off Sheffield Wednesday to anyone at whatever price whilst uncertainties would definitely prevail over whether he would continue to fund the Owls’ year after year of their campaign for promotion to the Premier League, the top tier of the English football system.
Danny Rohl, the German manager of Sheffield Wednesday, who had definitely resolved to do the uphill tasks to promote the Owls from the second tier, would almost certainly need more funding from Dejpon to build up and ameliorate his squads by recruiting experienced players from other clubs, specifically those in the Premier League.
Rohl has already made it clear to Dejpon that he will have to buy players from other clubs in the upcoming January transfer market or else the Owls would be more than unlikely to get promotion.
In the meantime, all parties ranging from the owner and the manager to the faithful fans were largely displeased at the poor performance of the Owls since the start of the 46-game season which has so far featured six games with only one win, one draw and four defeats.
