Update: Policeman admits he killed a Myanmar man at hospital

A POLICEMAN has surrendered and confessed to killing a Myanmar man who was waiting to undergo surgery at Khon Kaen Hospital where his father was also recuperating from an illness and had complained of being disturbed by him, Naewna newspaper said this afternoon (June 8).

Pol. Maj. Gen. Anuwat Suvarnabhumi, commander of Khon Kaen provincial police, said Pol.Sgt. Weerapong (surname withheld),34, was brought to surrender by his father in the middle of last night after Mr. Kyaw Swar Aong, 29, was shot dead on the fifth floor of this hospital’s sixth building while waiting for surgery.

Police had already identified him as the killer and were in the process of applying for an arrest warrant when he surrendered after being persuaded by his family to do so.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Anuwat said the suspect appeared stressed out and confused but admitted to firing one shot in the head of the Myanmar man killing him on the spot without ever having known him before just that he did not like his looks.

However his relatives told police that before the killing the suspect had visited his father at this same hospital where he was recuperating on the fifth floor of the fifth building with the deceased Myanmar man being close by before being moved to the sixth building to await surgery.

He had complained to the suspect that the Myanmar man was disturbing him and this prevented him from getting enough rest.

This angered the suspect who then walked to the sixth building and asked where the Myanmar man was and shot him dead at his hospital bed.

The relatives added that the suspect suffered from depression and had been taking medicine for this condition for a long time but this did not affect his work. However he had skipped his medicine for while before the shooting.
