Soldier, civilian shot dead by insurgents in Songkhla

 

INSURGENTS shot dead a soldier and a civilian in southern Songkhla province at 5 p.m. today (May 31) as the two men were riding a motorcycle along a road in Thepa district, Naewna newspaper said.

The unknown number of insurgent using as yet unidentified weapons attacked and killed Sgt. Sumit Chalu and  Mr. Dola Leng.

Yesterday evening two insurgents riding a motorcycle shot dead Volunteer Defence Corps Capt. Athar Hama, 34, in Pattani as he was riding a motorcycle home after a football match.

He was passing through Kadunong subdistrict, Saiburi district, when one of the two insurgents fired a bullet at him, with this hitting his head and seriously injuring him. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

Officials have inspected the scene of the shooting and are chasing the insurgents.
