THE MINIMUM WAGE for all employees at hotels and resort places in Bangkok and nine provinces will be increased to 400 baht daily, beginning in the middle of next month, confirmed a senior government official today (Mar. 26).
The Wage Committee chaired by the Ministry of Labour’s undersecretary Pairot Chotikasathian today unanimously resolved to raise the minimum wage for all employees of hotels and resort places from a range of 345 to 370 baht to 400 baht daily, effective from Apr. 13 or Songkran Day.
Nevertheless, the minimum wage for those employed in any businesses other than the tourism sector is not going to be increased anytime soon, according to the Wage Committee chair.
The hotels and resort places where employees will be legally entitled to the increased minimum wage are obliged to have been already evaluated as a four-star or higher facility and currently hire a minimum of 50 workers, Pairot said.
Those four-star or higher hotels and resort places are located in Pattaya City in Chonburi, Koh Samui island off Surat Thani, Hua Hin City in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Phang nga, Krabi, Rayong, Hat Yai City in Songkhla and Bangkok’s Pathumwan and Wattana districts.
During last year’s electoral campaigns, the ruling Pheu Thai had repeatedly pledged in public to increase the minimum wage for all employees to 600 baht daily, however.
