Newin’s son tipped to be named Bhumjaithai secretary-general

CHAICHANOK CHIDCHOB, son of de facto Bhumjaithai boss Newin Chidchob, will very likely be named a new secretary-general of the coalition partner later this month, a partisan source said today (Mar. 8).

A general caucus of Newin’s camp is scheduled for Mar. 24 for partisan members to pick a new executive board of the Bhumjaithai following the resignation of former transport minister Saksayam Chidchob as secretary-general of the party.

Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed today he will formally resign as Bhumjaithai leader on Mar. 24 to pave the way for the naming of the new executive board members, including the one to fill the vacant seat of secretary-general.

Nevertheless, Anutin is largely anticipated to retain his Bhumjaithai partisan leadership, albeit in nominal fashion, among the newly-named executive board members, the partisan source said.

Saksayam, brother of the de facto Bhumjaithai boss, stepped down as the party’s secretary-general last January under pressure over his alleged misconduct as a former cabinet member pertaining to his holding shares via a nominee of a construction firm, namely Buri Charoen Construction Co., which had quietly provided financial support for his party’s electoral campaigns.

The misconduct lawsuit earlier filed against Saksayam could possibly finally lead to a dissolution of the second-largest coalition partner by court.

Newin’s son Chaichanok currently performs as a Bhumjaithai MP of Buriram, the party’s largest stronghold and home province of the Chidchob family.

Permpun Chidchob, another brother of the de facto Bhumjaithai boss, currently performs as education minister who might probably be affected in a future cabinet reshuffle.
