Police raid illegal silicone implant factory supplying to a big clinic

A TEAM of Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) and Consumer Protection police together with Food and Drug Administration officials raided an illegal factory in Suphanburi producing silicone implants for nose and forehead with one of its clients being a well-known beauty clinic in Bangkok with nationwide branches, Naewna newspaper said this afternoon (Dec. 23).

Pol. Lt. Gen. Jirapob Buridej, head of CIB, said the raid was mounted after complaints were received that there was an illegal factory in this province producing silicone implants for nose and forehead augmentation. His team then collected evidence and got a warrant from Suphanburi Provincial Court to search an abandoned mill in Wang Wa subdistrict, Si Prachan district.

At this illegal factory police found four rhinoplasty silicone production machines, one forehead augmentation silicone production machine, 68 different silicone moulds, 1,098 finished rhinoplasty and forehead silicone implants and 43 unformed ones altogether worth 3.5 million baht.

Silicone moulds of the type implanted on popular stars were also found there and arrested was Ms. Nuttaphat (surname withheld), 32.

The suspect confessed that she had previously worked at a beauty clinic but later resigned to sell silicone. After that she studied the production of silicone and bought machines to produce it herself.

She priced her silicone implants at 80 baht apiece, much cheaper than 800 baht apiece sold in the market. With the help of three salesmen she was able to sell 5,000 to 10,000 pieces a month.

A well-known beauty clinic in Bangkok with branches in many provinces has been buying her products for the past two years.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Anant Nanasombat, head of Consumer Protection police, warned that implantation of substandard silicone could cause inflammation to the point of directly damaging the face and body.
