Update: Deputy army commander rushes to second railway blast site

 

THE DEPUTY Commander of 4th Army Region rushed to the railway track in Sadao district of Sonkhla province hit by a second explosion early this morning (Dec. 6) killing three railway workers and injuring four others, Amarin TV and INN News plus Sanook.com said.

Maj. Gen. Paisarn Nusangheld held urgent talks with railway staff and officials of other departments to assess the situation and clear the area, especially the removal of the bodies of the three dead train workers as quickly and safely as possible with this still being a dangerous area.

Telephone signals to this area were cut off after the blast which was reported to have occurred at around 6.30 a.m.

The three railway officials who died were identified as Mr. Yingsak Chumtree, an employee of Hat Yai railway station, Mr. Phumpan Petchsuk, assistant inspector of Hat Yai locomotive district. and Mr. Nawarat Suwanchatri, an employee of Hat Yai locomotive district.

The bomb went off as the team of seven railway workers and mechanics were walking over to pick up gas cylinders and equipment to repair the track and salvage the 10 of 15 cars of the freight train that had derailed when the first bomb went off on Saturday (Dec. 3) about 400 metres away from to the site of today’s blast. Fortunately there were no injuries in the earlier explosion.
