THE DEFENCE Ministry’s spokesman Gen. Kongcheep Tantravanich this afternoon (Sept. 28) dismissed rumours of a coup d’etat being mounted while also confirming that this issue was not raised at the Defence Council meeting, Thai Rath newspaper said.
Regarding what is being talked about one would have to ask the speakers for the motive for saying what they have, he said, adding that where the military is concerned there are no conditions leading to a coup.
Asked whether suspended Prime Minister-cum-Defence Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha raised this issue at today’s meeting, Gen. Kongcheep replied he did not do so.
He also again reconfirmed on behalf of the Defence Ministry that there will not be a coup and people can relax and be at ease about this issue, with this underpinned by the position he holds and being responsible for all that he says.
Gen. Kongcheep also urged reporters to ask all the questions they have in mind until they were satisfied because if not they could spread misunderstanding. He would in turn answer the queries he could.
