British tourist slashed to death in Kanchanaburi, friend badly wounded

TWO BRITISH men holidaying in Kanchanaburi province were attacked by a Thai man wielding a sickle at 3 a.m. this morning (Jan. 22) as they sat drinking and singing at a rented house with one of them killed and the other seriously wounded, Sanook.com said.

The attack took place at the house in Soi Sri Lanka in Mueang district with Mr. Ivan Markus John, 49, dying there while Mr. Sean Kevin, 50, was rushed to the hospital with critical head and body wounds.

The two tourists were drinking and singing in front of the house when Mr. Prasot, 23, a native of this province living in a house across the street and who neighbours said is mentally unstable, suddenly walked across with a sickle in his hand.

Upon reaching the house where the two tourists were enjoying themselves, without saying a word, he slashed John at the nape of his neck causing him to fall to the ground.

Kevin then tried to grab the sickle from Prasot leading to a fight that left both of them wounded with the attacker being slashed on his head and shoulders as well.

While Kevin and Pradot were both taken to the hospital for treatment, police have arrested the latter and are investigating whether he is really mentally ill as neighbours claim before proceeding with further legal action.
