Stepdad, mum charged after brutally beating up son

A YOUNG MAN was today (Nov. 29) charged with brutally beating up his six-year-old stepson at a condominium in Din Daeng area of Bangkok with his real mother also similarly charged, Sanook.com said

Pol. Lt. Col. Suebpong Karuna, deputy chief for investigation at Sutthisan police station, said the severe beatings took place at the condo in Soi Inthamara 41, Ratchadaphisek subdistrict, between July and September this year.

Neighbours had heard the boy cry and tried to help but the unidentified couple, the man 28 years old and the woman 23 years old, refused to let them see the child.

On Sept. 11 when the couple had gone out, the boy opened the door and limped out with both his eyes bruised. Neighbours quickly took him to the hospital where it was found that four of his ribs had been broken, his liver torn and bleeding into the abdomen, his skull fractured and there were bruises all over his body. A rubber band had been wound around his genitals.

It took the boy two weeks to recover and after that the neighbours contacted his relatives to take care of him.

At first he was very scared but now he has started to improve and smiles occasionally.

The stepfather and mother never contacted the boy again and moved to Phuket.

Suthisarn police tracked them down and they were today charged with assaulting the boy. The stepfather pleaded guilty but claimed he beat him because he was stubborn and disobedient while his real mother denied doing so.

Investigation is continuing, with the couple also having a nine-month-old baby girl, and once completed legal action will be pursued.
