EVEN AS the daily Covid count dropped again today (Oct. 5) to 9,869 cases and 92 deaths clusters continue to emerge with one being at a police station in Sisaket province where almost the entire police team based there got infected, Amarin TV said.
Altogether 32 Nam Kliang police station officers were found to be infected in one go with seven of their family members similarly infected as well as some outsiders taking the total to 57.
Pol. Col. Noppadon Chuayboon, chief of Nam Kliang police station, said he was notified by a junior policeman last Sunday night (Oct. 3) that he fell sick and went to the hospital for a Covid test and upon getting a positive result has now been admitted for treatment.
The hospital then called the whole police station in for tests and of 95 people who underwent testing yesterday 57 were found to be infected with 32 of them being policemen.
He added that he has since then quarantined himself at home and expected to be admitted to a field hospital this afternoon.
Today Nam Kliang Hospital medical team and district public health officer and his staff are continuing to swab test other high-risk groups who had close contact with policemen at this station.
Meanwhile Pol. Maj. Gen Santi Laoprathai, head of the Sisaket provincial police, visited Nam Klieng police station and gave them face masks, medicine, alcohol spray and PPE suits. He arranged for those who are well to wear PPE suits and drive a van to pick up those infected from their homes and drop them off at a field hospital.
He also sent a crime suppression team to help with the work at this station.
Earlier the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said of today’s 9,869 Covid cases 8,715 emerged in surveillance and healthcare systems, 864 were found through proactive testing in communities, 273 fell sick in prisons and detention centres while 17 overseas arrivals tested positive.
This takes the cumulative confirmed total since April 1 to 1,628,368.
Another 11,152 patients were cured taking total recoveries since April 1 to 1,504,229 while 108,373 are still undergoing treatment.
