THAILAND saw its daily Covid death count climb to record 312 but the number of cases held steady at 20,515 today (Aug. 18) while 28 youths were rounded up for holding a party in Ratchadapisek area, Sanook.com said.
The Public Health Ministry said of today’s new batch of cases 20,267 were among the general public while 248 got infected in prisons and detention centres.
This takes the cumulative confirmed total in the current wave that began on April 1 this year to 940,094.
Today’s 312 fatalities raises the death toll to 8,285.
Another 22,682 patients have been cured with recoveries in the current wave totalling 725,693 while 207,553 are still undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile Suthisan police team rounded up 28 youths as they were partying at a resort in Inthamara Soi 47, Ratchadaphisek sub-district, Din Daeng district, at 3.30 a.m. yesterday.
The party was held by Mr. Phacharadanai (surname withheld) in room number 37 on the first floor but a search did not find any illegal substance.
One party-goer, Ms. Thipsupaporn (surname withheld) confessed that she had rented this room to hold a joint birthday party for Mr. Santirat (surname withheld) and Mr. Yuttaphum (surname withheld).
They were charged with violating section 9 of the emergency decree that bans the gathering of more than five people during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
