SOUTHERN Songkhla officials and police raided a party held at a hotel on Koh Yo island and arrested 48 youths with drugs also found at the scene, Siam Rath newspaper said this afternoon (July 23).
At around 11 p.m. last night Mr. Chaiphon Niyomkaew, chief of Mueang Songkhla district, together with police and officials stormed a pool-side party at The Lake House hotel on this island located in Songkhla lake after being tipped off that a large number of youths were partying there and also taking drugs.
Most of the youths, 25 men and 23 women with one of the latter being under 18 years of age, were rounded up as they were drinking around the swimming pool while seven others were arrested while playing snooker in the adjacent room. However six to seven youths managed to escape.
Found scattered on the floor was 11 grammes of crystal methamphetamine (Ice) , a quantity of ketamine powder, kratom leaves and alcohol which were all seized as evidence.
The revellers face three charges including violating the emergency decree and Songkhla Provincial Communicable Disease Committee’s regulation as well as drug abuse. All 48 youths were quickly taken for a coronavirus test for fear of triggering a new cluster.
