Meanwhile protest leader Panusaya Sithijirawattanakul, or Rung, said in a Facebook post that her parents had got infected with coronavirus after she and her older sister Methavi had done so.

She added that she was coordinating with a hospital for their treatment and had informed all those who got close to them of what had happened.

However she also said she could not express how sad and angry she was at what happened to her and her friends who were detained for two months while awaiting trail with some still behind bars.

This led to her and her friends catching Covid in prison and passing the infection on to those close to them.

She added that those detained and imprisoned did not know how severely Covid was spreading in the compound because everyday officials would tell them to relax and not worry and just protecting themselves was enough.

She pointed out that while the Corrections Department had stated that the situation was under control, the number of inmates getting infected was increaing daily, peaking at more than 1,000 today.

She questioned what else the department was hiding from the society.
