Singer’s girlfriend wanted on lese majeste charges

AN arrest warrant has been issued for the girlfriend of Mr. Chaiamorn Kaewwiboonpan, a popular singer whose stage name is Ammy the Bottom Blues, who is being detained on charges of violating Section 112 of the Criminal Code, known as the lese majeste law, for alleged arson in front of Klong Prem prison, Siam Rath newspaper said this evening (March 11).

This the second time Prachachuen station police asked the court to issue an arrest warrant for Ms Yanisa (surname withheld), a first year student at Chulalongkorn University’s Political Science Faculty, who was with Ammy when the alleged offense occurred in front of Klong Prem prison as was his friend Mr Thanaphat (surname withheld).

Pol. Lt .Gen. Phakphong Phongphetra, head of the Metropolitan Police, said the second suspect will be coming in for questioning tomorrow. However Ammy’s girlfriend seems to be trying to escape overseas.

On the second protest march taking place this Saturday, March 13, with the destination this time being the Government House, Pol Lt Gen. Phakphong pointed out that it is forbidden to demonstrate there.

He urged the protesters to stay within the framework of the law, if they cannot move then they should not do so. However since they insist on marching there, police have worked out a detour that would cause the least disturbance for people living in the area and a limited assembly area.

He added that if the protesters are not violent, the police too would not be violent.
