Only 72 new Covid cases today, Samut Sakhon makes progress

THAILAND logged only 72 new coronavirus cases over the past day to this morning (Feb. 16) while the death toll did not increase and remained at 82, Sanook.com reported.

The Covid-19 Situation Administration’s (CCSA’s) spokesman Dr. Taweesilp Visanuyothin said the new cases raise the cumulative confirmed cases to 24,786 with 23,563 patients having recovered while 1,141 are still undergoing treatment. 

Of these 72 cases, 21 emerged through surveillance and service systems while proactive search in communities found 48 more.

Three overseas travellers were quarantined with one each coming from the US, United Arab Emirates and the UK.

Meanwhile the public relations office of Samut Sakhon province, which is the key hotspot of the current outbreak, said only 16 cases appeared yesterday (Feb. 15) taking the provincial total to  15,753.

Of these 16 new patients, six are Thai and 10 foreigners, with all hospitalized

Noteworthy is that no new cases were found through proactive tests of 447 people with 176,028 people tested through this method and results obtained so far. The total number of patients found through searching this way now adds up to 13,276.

Latest test results of 496 people also showed that none of them are infected.
