Finance Ministry locks gates as protesters show up

PROTESTERS gathered at a Finance Ministry gate today (Jan. 22) to hand in a letter on budget allocation as called upon to do so by the People’s Party yesterday, Siam Rath newspaper said.

In their letter the protesters said that they want to reclaim the Royal and military budgets to distribute it to all the people so as to help them.

The People’s Party had called upon its members and followers to make this move in a Facebook post yesterday.

The ministry mounted tight security with entrance only allowed at gate number four and exit at gate number one. Security guards were told to strictly monitor and control all those entering the premises.

Metropolitan Police Division 2 sent more than 40 police officers to take care of the complex, control the gathering and prevent any violence.

Meanwhile Finance Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith had come to work at the ministry at 7.30 a.m. this morning but left at 10 a.m. to go to the Government House.
