THE Cabinet today (Nov. 10) approved the appointment of Miss Thailand 2016 Thanaporn Sriviraj as a political official at the Secretariat of the Prime Minister with immediate effect, Amarin TV reported.
Ms. Thanaporn, or Jub Jib, is the wife of Deputy Agriculture Minister Thamanat Prompow, who is a Palang Pracharath party-list MP. She graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Phayao University, and has been accompanying her husband on his various missions.
According to a Bangkok Post report published on February 27, 2020, Thamanat strongly denied he was imprisoned for heroin trafficking in Australia during a censure debate and noted that the opposition MPs omitted certain information when discussing the drug scandal he was implicated in.
The now-disbanded Future Forward Party had uploaded a series of Australian court documents related to the case and posted a link on its Twitter account. BBC Thai has also posted an unofficial translation of the Australian court ruling.
He insisted he was charged by Australian authorities with having knowledge of drug activities and for withholding information for which he was detained for four years. He said the case in Australia did not have any bearing on his qualifications as a minister.
Other appointments include Mr. Sasiwat Vongsinsawat, the director-general of Foreign Ministry’s European Department, being designated the ambassador of Royal Thai Embassy in Moscow, Russia, while Mrs. Chulamanee Chartsuwan, ambassador of Royal Thai Embassy in Colombo, Sri Lanka, will be replacing him as head of this department.
At the Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry, Mr. Prapit Chanthrama has been appointed the director-general of the Royal Irrigation Department while Mr. Archchaichan Liengprayoo is moving in to helm the Rice Department with this effective from the day of His Majesty the King’s appointment onwards.
