PRIME MINISTER Anutin Charnvirakul and several other members of his cabinet were yesterday (July 21) publicly accused of clandestine, unlawful involvement in the alleged rigging of 2024’s senatorial election now that the Election Commission has been repeatedly taken to task for dragging their feet on the notorious issue.
Yingcheep Atchanont, project manager of iLaw activist group, gave a press conference to accuse the prime minister and eight other persons, mostly being attached to the Bhumjaithai, core of the current coalition government, as front-line politicians suspected of involvement in the vote-buying, electoral rigging conspiracy allegedly perpetrated to land as many as 138 contestants undue victories in the complicated, triple-tiered senatorial races two years ago.
Apart from Anutin who concurrently acts as the Bhumjaithai leader, the others attached to the largest ruling party and allegedly suspected of more or less involvement in the premeditated electoral fraud include Deputy Prime Minister Songsak Thongsri, largely known as personally close to de facto Bhumjaithai boss Newin Chidchob, Prime Minister’s Office Minister Paradorn Prisnanuntakul, chief government whip Koravee Prisnanuntakul, Transport Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, Prime Minister’s Office Minister Napinthorn Srisanpang and Prime Minister’s Office Minister Suksamruay Wantaneeyakul, among others.
The leading iLaw activist said he could no longer rely on the allegedly slow, time-consuming performance of the election commissioners with their yet-unfinished investigation into the senatorial rigging shenanigans and yesterday petitioned the People’s-led opposition to launch a parallel probe supposedly focusing on those prominent, suspected politicians.
Yingcheep said the commissioners may have failed to perform in impartial fashion since they had been handpicked by the current senators, most of whom would enjoy their legislative status made possible by such premeditated, rigging conspiracy and so far performed in line with the Bhumjaithai plans and schemes at parliament.
Chief opposition whip/People’s MP Parit Wacharasindhu said the polling agency could possibly manage to keep any lawsuits pertaining to the alleged senatorial rigging conspiracy from being finally forwarded to the Supreme Court in effort to keep suspected masterminds and manipulators from being brought to justice whilst sacrificing “small fish” instead.
