ARRESTED on drug trafficking charges in a sting operation mounted by Rayong City Police today (April 7) was a former People’s Party candidate for this coastal city’s Provincial Administrative Organisation who was immediately expelled from the camp, Amarin TV said.
The Special Suppression Unit team seized some methamphetamine pills and crystal methamphetamine (Ice) at a roadside delivery point and arrested the suspect, Mr. Nitipat (surname withheld), nicknamed Nick, 37.
The incident occurred soon after midnight with the suspect driving up to the entrance of Soi Pramote, Thap Ma subdistrict, in a multi-purpose vehicle to deliver 200 meth pills for 3,700 baht as had been arranged as well as had brought along some Ice.
When the police team identified themselves the suspect threw away the cash and rammed the police vehicle in trying to escape but was eventually apprehended.
A subsequent search of his residence in the Koh Wai community uncovered 27.22 grammes of crystal meth, 206 meth pills, and two digital scales. The suspect confessed to receiving the drugs from an agent in Pak Nam subdistrict and reselling them, estimating a profit of approximately 700 baht this time.
Initially, the suspect was charged with “selling and possessing Category 1 narcotics without permission, destroying evidence, resisting arrest, and causing property damage.”
Rayong police are continuing to investigate the source of the network.
Meanwhile, Krit Silpachai, People’s MP for Rayong Constituency 2, expressed his sadness and disappointment that his former assistant and party coordinator had “made the wrong decision” and ruined his future by getting involved in illegal activities.
He affirmed that Nitipat had always worked diligently to build trust with the people, but he never expected such a hidden agenda.
“I’m saddened that he didn’t think things through. All my friends in the party are dedicated to working for the people.
“When we encounter something like this, it’s something we truly cannot accept.”
Krit stated that the income from volunteering or being a party staff member may not be high, approximately 15,000 – 20,000 baht, which may have motivated him to choose the wrong path to find a quick financial shortcut.
The evidence at the scene, including scales and other equipment, indicates that he may not just be a user, but a dealer. He instructed the police to expand the investigation to the fullest extent to find the main culprit, without any political connections involved.
Furthermore, the Rayong branch of People’s Party did not remain silent, issuing a statement apologising to the public and declaring its stance against protecting wrongdoers. The party registrar immediately expelled Nitipat from from the party and is conducting a rigorous review of party personnel to prevent a recurrence.
