Chinese traders at Thai-Cambodian border confront Thai troops

A GROUP of Chinese traders in Thmor Da area of Cambodia’s Pursat province, opposite Trat province on the Thai side, protested the installation of a barbed wire fence near their shops saying this infringed on their right to earn a living with one of them headbutting a soldier, Amarin TV and PPTVHD36 said this evening (Jan. 29).

As tension rose Thai troops did not retaliate and attempted to control the situation to prevent it from escalating.

Having rented these shops from Khmers on the Cambodian side of the border the Chinese traders said the blockade prevented them from conducting normal business.

While no one got injured, the Thai military is closely monitoring the situation to prevent violent conflict from erupting.

Later a Tiktok video surfaced with Chinese text overlaid on an image of barbed wire fence and a Thai navy vehicle in Thmor Da  area with the message, translated and shared by “Thai Burma Railway (Death Railway)” Facebook page, saying: “Please keep your promise and do not damage my property again.”

An additional message said: “If you do not keep your promise, I will release more video information on the Internet.”

The operator of this Facebook page then questioned: “From whom did he get a promise, and what was promised? I’m curious. I’m searching for him. I now have his Facebook and Twitter accounts. I’ll be watching quietly and report back later.”

In a video posted at this Facebook page, the operator said a hotel and shop owner in Thmor Da, who is displeased with the situation, angrily shouted at and headbutted a Thai marine guarding the area as he was calmly trying to explain the situation with other soldiers filming the entire incident.

Commenters pointed to his daring to confront a soldier, suggesting it was something to think about.
