Tortured Finnish girl rescued at Sa Kaeo

THAI Immigration police together with representatives from several agencies and the Finnish Embassy rescued an 11-year-old Finnish girl who was held captive and tortured at a house in Sa Kaeo province and arrested a Finnish couple for overstaying their visa, Amarin TV said this morning (Jan. 23).

The team raided the house in Watthana Nakhon district at 9 p.m. last night after the Finnish Embassy notified Thai police that the unidentified girl had sent an email to Finnish police saying she was held captive and tortured there.

At this house, aside from the girl, they found two suspects, Mr. Jariolavat Anmelin, 56, and Mrs. Katjatuulia Kuikka, 47, both Finnish nationals.

Upon checking their passports it was discovered they had entered Thailand on Nov. 15, 2021, and were permitted to stay until Jan. 30, 2024 thus had overstayed for 723 days. They were charged with this offense and confessed to it. They were sent to Ban Thap Mai police station for further legal proceedings.

The rescued Finnish girl was placed under the care of the Department of Social Development and Human Security in Sa Kaeo and will be handed over to the Finnish Embassy for further care and processing according to established procedures.
