Thai hacker and online gambling suspect arrested at airport

A THAI national wanted on charges of hacking 16 government agency websites and linking them to online gambling platforms plus money laundering was arrested at Suvarnabhumi Airport this afternoon (Jan. 17) upon returning from Cambodia, Naewna newspaper said.

Mr. Jesada (surname withheld), who is wanted under an arrest warrant issued by the Criminal Court on Sept. 22, 2025, was arrested at the airport upon returning from a job in Sihanoukville. He was charged with “jointly organising or participating in gambling for money or other property without a licence or permission from an official” and “jointly laundering money.”

This is a special case of the Technology and Information Crime Division as the perpetrators had hacked 16 government agency websites and redirected traffic to online gambling platforms via backlinks. They were either paid or received advertising fees for setting up this illegal online connection which led to the public being unable to use these government websites normally.

The pursuit and arrest of the suspect was carried out under the instructions of Pol. Lt. Col. Yutthana Praedam, director-general of the Department of Special Investigation, and his deputy, Pol. Lt. Col. Chatupol Bongkochmas, who had assigned the Surveillance and Intelligence Centre to handle the case. This agency has deployed operational teams to track down and arrest wanted suspects.
