THE BHUMJAITHAI, currently core of the caretaker government, is expecting to get no less than 20 MP seats in party-listed mode of the Feb.8 election, Bhumjaithai Secretary-General Chaichanok Chidchob confirmed today (Jan.6).

Compared to only three MP seats won by the Bhumjaithai in party-listed mode of the 2023 election, the ultra-conservative, ruling camp is now anticipating to get no less than 20 out of a total 100 MP seats, according to the Bhumjaithai secretary-general, son of de facto party boss Newin Chidchob.

Running in party-listed mode under the Bhumjaithai tickets in the nationwide election are Caretaker Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, former Chart Thai Pattana leader Varawut Silpa-archa, former Palang Pracharath secretary-general Santi Prompat, former Ruam Thai Sang Chart secretary-general Ekanat Prompan, Prime-Ministerial Secretary Traisulee Traisoranakul and Chaichanok, among others.

Anutin who concurrently acts as Bhumjaithai leader was named the No.1 partisan contestant for prime minister followed by Foreign Minister Sihasak Puangketkeow as his running mate for head of government.

In the previous election, Newin’s camp secured 71 MP seats, consisting of 68 out of a total 400 constituency-based MP seats and three party-listed ones. The Bhumjaithai’s three party-listed MPs were Newin’s brother/former Bhumjaithai secretary-general Saksayam Chidchob, Songsak Thongsri and Anutin.

Nevertheless, Newin’s camp is more or less speculated to win 100-plus MP seats in both constituency-based and party-listed modes of the general election and manage to spearhead sort of an alliance with a few major camps such as the likes of the Pheu Thai under de facto party boss/inmate Thaksin Shinawatra and the Klatham under de facto party boss/Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Agriculture & Cooperatives Minister Thammanat Prompao, among others, with intent to set up a coalition government after the Feb.8 election.
