Trat border now under complete control of Thai military

THE Commander of Thai Marine Corps Task Force in Trat said today (Dec. 17) that the entire Trat border is under complete control of Thai forces with Cambodian units having been neutralised, PPTVHD36 said.

Capt. Thammanoon Wanna, commander of this marine corps unit, said as the “Trat Suppresses the Adversary” operation entered the ninth day today even though gunfire could still be heard as Thai troops moved in to clear targeted areas in keeping with the plan, Cambodian forces have now been completely neutralised.

This followed eight days of intensive military operations by the navy and air force to reclaim three houses from Cambodia.

“Currently, Thai soldiers are in complete control of the situation and the battle. Everything is going according to plan. I assure the public that everyone will be able to return home soon. Please do not worry,” Capt. Thamanoon said.

He touched upon mysterious drones seen in this eastern province, stating they were merely a psychological warfare tactic, which can sometimes be difficult to distinguish from starlight looking on with the naked eye while confirming that they would not affect the public.

At this frontier five Thai soldiers got injured but there were no fatalities and no civilian casualties, while fifteen artillery shells and mortar rounds landed in Thai territory and 4,528 people have been displaced.

However clashes are continuing in several areas in the Second Army Region zone with a fierce battle raging at Prasat Ta Kwai ancient temple and Hill 350.

Clashes occurred in front of the temple as the Khmer side attempted to advance into the area while the Thai side implemented an operational plan and used appropriate units to contain and control the situation, with artillery support sent to hold the area, control routes and prevent reinforcement of enemy troops and supporting fire.

Troops were also deployed to control the area around Chong An Ma market and its vicinity with this operation leading to the discovery of a large number of PMN-2 mines, reflecting the significant risks faced by Thai soldiers.

Currently, the Thai side is rolling out barbed wire and installing obstacles, adjusting troop deployments to reinforce objectives, and continuing operations as planned.
