WITH TYPHOON Bualoi having weakened to an active low-pressure cell as it moved into Thailand today (Sep 30), Phayao was immediately affected with continuous torrential rain since 3 a.m. exceeding 200 millimetres, Naewna newspaper said.
The provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office has issued the highest warning level after Pha Tang and Ban Wang Bong villages in Khuan subdistrict, Pong district, and low-lying areas along Khuan river got inundated with floodwaters flowing into homes and farmland. Residents were urged to move their belongings and pets to higher areas for safety.
Dozens of homes in Khuan and Ngim subdistricts also got damaged as mountain runoffs engulfed their homes with the municipal workers at the latter hurriedly removing debris from bridges and other areas that are blocking the flow of water.
The Thai Metrological Department said Bualoi was downgraded to an active low-pressure cell over Luang Namtha, Laos, and at 4.00 a.m. covering upper Myanmar and upper Laos. It is forecast to move through a monsoon trough that lies across upper Myanmar and upper Northern Thailand today (Sep. 30).
Combined with the relatively strong southwesterly monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, heavy rain is expected in some areas of the country. Residents in these areas should be aware of the dangers of heavy downpours which could lead to flash floods, landslides and rivers overflowing, particularly on hillsides, near waterways, low-lying areas and flooded areas.
