POLICE have slapped a charge of negligence against the owner of a pit bull that mauled a two-month-old baby girl to death as her parents were packing some second-hand goods they had purchased yesterday (Sep. 16), TV Channel 7 said this evening.
Reporters of this TV station visited an an agricultural produce purchasing yard in Thung Pho subdistrict, Nong Chang district, Uthai Thani province, where they met the pit bull’s owner, Ms. A (pseudonym), who told them that she is taking care of all the funeral expenses but had not yet discussed compensation for the baby’s death with her parents.
This afternoon, Pol. Maj. Gen. Chairap Chunnawat, commander of Uthai Thani Provincial Police, came to Khao Bang Kraek police station to follow up on the case and also met the parents to whom he gave some financial assistance, a wreath while comforting them.
He told reporters that he had questioned both the baby’s parents and the dog’s owner with evidence gathered yesterday and again today for completing the investigation by nightfall.
Charges of negligence causing death have been filed against the pit bull’s owner and the Uthai Thani Provincial Livestock Office has been notified, he said, while it remains to be seen whether further action will be taken in this case.
The baby’s parents, Mr. Dusit, 38, and Ms. Kanthima, 35, said the dog owner gave them money twice today, first 6,000 baht to cover the cost of collecting their baby’s body then an additional 11,000 baht for funeral expenses.
