Thai-Cambodian talks moving in positive direction: PM

ACTING Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai said this evening (Aug. 6) that there is an overall positive trend at the Thai-Cambodian General Border Committee (GBC) meeting in Malaysia which started on Monday with talks moving in the right direction, Amarin TV said.

While refusing to divulge the details of the important negotiations with observers from Malaysia, US and China also participating he said this would be released after tomorrow’s meeting of the defence ministers of the two neighbouring countries.

The Thai team has also been given guidelines for tomorrow’s key talks.

Meanwhile Acting Defence Minister Gen. Nattapon Nakpanich said he would be issuing a joint statement after tomorrow’s meeting while mentioning that he is 90 percent confident the conflict could end depending on discussions by the team up to this point, the outcome of tomorrow’s talks and actual action.

If Cambodia continues to yield there would be good news tomorrow, he added.
