A FIRE that broke out at a tissue paper factory within Hemaraj Industrial Estate in Saraburi province at 11.45 a.m. this morning (June 30) left one person dead, 26 injured and nine missing, Thai Rath newspaper and Amarin TV said this evening.

While the fire at this three-storey factory building has been contained to a limited area, there is smoke and flame in some parts of this zone, but it has not spread to other areas. Firefighters are constantly spraying water to completely extinguish the blaze with more than 50 fire trucks having been sent to fight it.

There were more than a hundred morning shift workers at the three-storey factory spread across 35 rai of land when the fire broke out. Most of those who are missing, got injured and the one person who died were working at the office on the third floor in the central zone of the building.

Nong Khae district chief Mr. Santhat Randawe said the entire factory was ablaze when he inspected it with tissue paper being good fuel. There were also explosions at intervals. The cause of the fire will be investigated later.

Mr. Tik, 45, a production worker, said both he and his girlfriend work at this factory. He was at the back of the building where the fire had started and quickly dashed out.

The missing people were on the second and third floors of the factory, he added.
