Prawit targeted again over overseas trips

A FORMER Pheu Thai party spokesman is checking whether Palang Pracharath leader Prawit Wongsuwan’s overseas trips this year violated regulations after finding out that he had been absent from  84 out of 95 House sessions on the pretext of other commitments, TV Channel 7 said this afternoon (Sep. 30).

Mr. Prompong Nopparit, Pheu Thai’s former spokesman, went to the Immigration Bureau today to request details of Prawit’s trips abroad for three days in March this year, three days in June and two days in July-August, a total of eight days, under the his right as stated in the constitution and the Official Information Act B.E. 2540.

He wants to find out if the expenses for these trips are in accordance with government regulations with these trips used as an excuse to skip House sessions.

This step was taken after he was tipped off that these trips could have violated National Anti-Corruption Commission regulations.

Prompaong added that he was not trying to discredit Prawit nor is seeking political gain as accused by some people but rather is taking action for public benefit and will continue to do so until the Palang Pracharath leader shows responsibility by either attending House sessions or resigning as a party-listed MP.

Palang Pracharath is now part of the opposition after falling out with Pheu Thai with the powerful de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra publicly accusing “the man from a forest home” of standing behind a surprise impeachment bid launched by 40 senators many of whom being personally loyal to Prawit against the Pheu Thai-attached former prime minister Srettha Thavisin who was deposed at the order of the Constitutional Court on Aug. 14.

The impeached former prime minister had named Pichit Chuenban, a former convict and former lawyer previously hired by Thaksin, a minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office in a cabinet lineup earlier this year.

Though Pichit had apparently resigned under pressure from the de facto Pheu Thai boss who had allegedly attempted to award him with the portfolioless ministership, the questionable act on the part of the former real estate mogul-turned-prime minister had been judged by court as an irreversible fait accompli.
