PRIME MINISTER SRETTHA Thavisin is looking forward to an official visit to Phnom Penh to meet with his Cambodian counterpart Hun Manet in pursuit of ways and means to join hands and crack down on transnational call-centre rackets allegedly based in Cambodia.

The Thai prime minister has posted on his X page over the weekend to say he has recently telephoned his Cambodian counterpart asking for talks in the Cambodian capital about the proposed collaboration between the two neighbouring countries to combat the roguish call-centre scammers to whom many Thais had reportedly fallen victim.

Srettha’s offer to visit Phnom Penh and meet with Hun Manet for anti-scammers talks is yet to be accepted and scheduled by the latter, however.

Meanwhile, the Thai prime minister said the Thai and Cambodian police chiefs may as well consult with each other and map out concerted missions to suppress the roguish scammers in either country.

Srettha said he had earlier instructed the Thai police and concerned authorities to crack down on all suspected swindlers throughout the country within a 60-day period.

Those suspects were mostly reported to be holed up in Myanmar and Cambodia preying on unsuspecting people, especially elderly persons and those far from being techno-savvy, in Thailand.

The rogues had typically deceived their victims into unknowingly granting them access to the wallets in their smartphones from which they had indiscriminately sucked off the money.
