FORMER Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt urged Bangkokians to flock to vote in the gubernatorial and city council elections tomorrow (June 28) and ensure there is the biggest turnout ever while speaking to supporters in Siam Square late afternoon today as part of his “24-hour final push campaign across Bangkok” during which he visited all 50 districts, Naewna newspaper said.

In asking the big crowd milling around him, with many of them being youths, whether they were ready for the big day tomorrow, Chadchart, who is running for a second term, said they could vote for whomever they liked but he has been canvassing tirelessly for 24 hours across all 50 districts.

“Our policy is ‘to create a city with opportunities and hope for everyone,’ focusing on four areas: people, education, public health, and quality of life, totalling 260 policy plans.

“The past month has been hard work and fun because the campaigning has taken many forms. I want to reaffirm that the claims about transparency, which some people have made, are false. Transparency is the only way for our future sustainability. The nation needs transparency and efficient work with clear goals.

“At this moment, I believe everyone already has someone in mind. Please go and vote for the person you love and trust. Go out and exercise your right to vote fully because the new governor needs a mandate from us, needs our support so as to have the energy to work for you in future.

“Please go out and vote overwhelmingly, create history by getting the highest voter turnout ever. Make sure everyone in your household casts their ballot. After voting, go have fun, and then come back in the evening to help count the votes,” he said.

He also mentioned that he only slept two hours last night, but was encouraged by a citizen who drove from Khlong Sam Wa district at 1 a.m. to see him. The citizen said they wanted to be part of history and wanted to see a better environment in Bangkok, which gave him the motivation to stay up all night.

“I urge everyone to go out and make history. It’s okay if you don’t vote for me. Please vote for someone you love and trust. We respect the rights of all citizens. No one is better than anyone else; it depends on who the people trust.”

Chadchart also warned that as it might rain tomorrow people should go and vote early because many polling stations are just tents pitched by the roadside, while mentioning that he has no authority over the situation,

Following his speech a large crowd lined up to take selfies with him in a lively atmosphere.
