A SALESWOMAN was arrested today (June 6) on charges of swapping QR codes and siphoning money from the sale of around 200 pairs of shoes to her own account resulting in the company suffering a loss of over half a million baht, TV Channel 7 said.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), through the Crime Suppression Division (CSD), arrested Ms. Thanya (surname withheld), 29, on an arrest warrant issued by Chiang Mai Provincial Court for “jointly stealing from an employer”.

The theft was discovered on April 21, 2025 when an unnamed company closed down its shoe shop at a shopping mall in this northern city and assigned the head of the sales team to collect the goods and return them to the warehouse. Thanya and another salesperson were assigned to carry out this task.

However, when they arrived at the warehouse, the accounting staff found that 201 pairs of shoes worth 501,840 baht were missing. The sales team chief was asked to provide evidence, but he said he knew nothing and subsequently disappeared, causing the company financial loss.

The company then authorised Mr. Prateep (surname not mentioned) to file a police report and take legal action against those involved. Investigators gathered evidence and determined that the employee had switched the QR code with cash from the sale of the shoes going to her account and not the company’s and an arrest warrant was then issued for the suspect.

Police tracked down Thanya at a friend’s house in Chonburi and arrested and then transferred her to Chang Phueak police station in Chiang Mai for further legal action.

However, the suspect has denied all charges.
