THE Israeli embassy has warned its citizens in Phuket to “strictly respect Thai law” as local government agencies have decided to intensify law enforcement against foreigners, TV Channel 7 said this morning (May 8).
The Phuket Info Centre, citing Facebook page “Israel in Thailand”, said the announcement states that Phuket authorities are preparing to step up law enforcement measures to regulate the behaviour of tourists after several recent incidents had affected the popular island’s image.
Key measures include:
– Increased scrutiny and enforcement of laws against foreigners;
– Violators may be prosecuted and face the maximum penalties under the law;
– Urgent efforts to educate tourists about local laws;
– Serious offences may result in visa or residency revocation in Thailand;
– Driving without a licence will be prosecuted “without exception.”
